Rebecca HARMS (MEP, Greens/EFA), Petras AUSTREVICIUS (MEP, ALDE), Michal BONI (MEP, EPP), Anna Maria CORAZZA BILDT (MEP, EPP), Ana Maria GOMES (MEP, S&D) have issued a joint statement of support as reaction to the recent poisoning of the Russian opposition politician Vladimir Kara-Murza:
"We are extremely worried about the health condition of our friend Vladimir Kara-Murza. He has been hospitalised and diagnosed with severe intoxication by an unknown substance after having shown identical symptoms to those he experienced two years ago.
Vladimir is a courageous and perseverant defender of freedom, human rights and the rule of law in Putin's Russia. Even under threats against his life he has continued to speak up for justice and the truth and advocating for democratic reforms for the Russian people.
It is an highly alarming trend that Russian political opposition is targeted for their work and we call for a thorough police investigation and that those responsible are brought to justice.
Our thoughts and our support goes out to Vladimir and his family and we hope for his soon recovery."
