Rebecca Harms (Greens/EFA), Bronis Ropė (Greens/EFA), Petras Auštrevičius (Alde), Algirdas Saudargas (EPP) had planned to visit the construction site of the Nuclear Power Plant Ostrovets, Belarus. The four members of European Parliament requested meetings with Belarusian authorities in Minsk on 20th of April. Yesterday, on 10th April, the Ambassador of Belarus in Belgium, referring to administrative reasons, informed the members, that it would not be possible to organise the requested meetings.
The four members comment as follows:
"We are convinced that we need open exchange and dialogue on the safety of the Nuclear Power Plant in Ostrovets especially since it is situated on the EU border. We are disappointed that the visit has been postponed. We are ready to travel to Minsk and Ostrovets at any time if authorities are willing to meet us and to facilitate the visit on site."
