The Dutch-led team of prosecutors investigating the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over East Ukraine in 2014, today presented their findings.
The buk missile came from the Russian Federation and was fired from the Separatist-controlled areas. Commenting on the release, Rebecca Harms, said:
"The investigators proved that the Buk missile system by which the MH17
airliner was shot down, came from the Russian Federation and was transported
back there. The responsibility of the Russian Federation in this tragedy, which
caused the death of 289 passengers and crew, can no longer be hidden.
The release of the details of the downing of MH17 should be yet another wake up
call for the European Union’s member states to keep the sanctions against
Russia in place and demand an end to the war in eastern Ukraine.
The Joint Investigation Committee should continue its investigation in order to
identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. This is particularly
important to give justice to the victim’s relatives.”
