Appeal to General Prosecutor Chaika: Kremlin's hostages
In summer 2014 Ukrainian teacher Stanislav Klykh and Mykola Karpyuk were arrested by Russian officials on grounds of having killed Russian soldiers in the Chechnya conflict 1994-1996. In pre-trial detention both Klykh and Karpyuk report to have been tortured. Stanislav Klykh, on 26 may has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment after an unfair trial.
Due to Stanislav Klykh and Mykola Karpyuk's poor state of health, the allegations of torture and the questionable fairness of the trial, Rebecca Harms, co-president of the Greens/EFA in the European Parliament, calls on General Prosecutor Yurii Yakovlevich Chaika to allow the imprisoned access to medical examination and to pursue an investigation into their allegations of abuse.
The Appeal was sent to the General prosecutor's office on July 11th. He has not responded to the letter.
