Rebecca Harms, Member of the European Parliament and Co-President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, is currently on a delegation trip to Tbilisi (11-15 February). After the Euronest meetings and talks with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, she will follow-up on the problem of Turkey exerting political pressure on Georgia.
On February 15 Rebecca Harms visits Turkish teacher Mustafa Emre Çabuk for the
second time in prison in Tbilisi. He has been held in detention for over six
months because Turkish authorities demand his extradition. Çabuk worked as a
teacher at a school established in Georgia by followers of the Gülen movement
upon the invitation of the Georgian government after the independence. He is a
well-known and popular educator in Georgia. His and his family's asylum requests
have been rejected by Georgian authorities. Rebecca Harms is urging the
Georgian authorities not to extradite Çabuk, as in Turkey he does not have the
chance of a fair trial and due process. Rebecca Harms will also meet with his
lawyer and his wife. A short press briefing will be held after her visit in
prison. (3-6 Gldani St, Tbilisi, 12 a.m.)
