Ukraine faces a "super election year" with presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for 2019. For the first time, the European Parliament is deploying a Pre-election Delegation, in which Rebecca Harms, Green MEP and expert on Ukraine, will participate.
The delegation, which will be conducted jointly with the National Democratic Institute (NDI), will meet representatives of civil society, the Central Election Committee and a number of presidential candidates. The meeting with civil society is particularly important in view of the numerous violent attacks against anti-corruption activists and journalists.
The press conference will take place on Saturday, 17 November at 11h30, at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center, where the delegation will present its concrete recommendations, which should contribute to a fair and peaceful election campaign and create greater public confidence in the electoral process.
