Rebecca Harms visits Georgia July 12-16 to participate at the 14th BATUMI INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “Georgia’s European Way”. She meets with Ministers, Members of Parliament, representatives of NGOs, civil society and journalists to discuss the reform process, security, energy security, human rights and media freedom.
This Sunday Rebecca Harms visits Mustafa Emre Çabuk in prison in Tbilisi. Mustafa Emre Çabuk is a Turkish citizen, who is about to be extradited to Turkey due to alleged links to the Gülen movement. He has been working as teacher at a school established by followers of the Gülen movement in Georgia. His and his family's asylum requests have recently been rejected by Georgian authorities. Rebecca Harms will also meet with his lawyers, his wife and visit the school where Çabuk taught.
In addition, Harms will meet with the lawyers and wife of Afgan Mukhtarli – a Azerbaijani journalist recently abducted in Georgia who reappeared in prison in Azerbaijan.
