The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement has entered into force 2 years ago. The European Parliament takes stock and evaluates the reforms which have been implemented so far. The report will be debated in plenary on Tuesday evening and voted on Wednesday, 12 December.
Rebecca Harms, Green shadow rapporteur for this file comments:
"In our report we recognise the immense progress Ukraine has made so far, in particular in areas such as energy, health, pensions, education, public administration and decentralisation. Nevertheless, we urge Ukrainian authorities to step up their reform efforts, in particular in the field of anti-corruption, to continue the decentralisation reform and to make further progress with a comprehensive reform of the judiciary. But the achievements Ukraine has reached are impressive especially when considering the highly difficult situation Ukraine is facing through the occupation and the war Russia is leading against them. After the Russian military attack at the Kerch Strait I expect a broad majority in the European Parliament to vote for the proposed reactions to the recent escalation: We call on the EU and its member states for targeted sanctions in case the 24 Ukrainian service men are not released and in case of further military escalation. The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission mandate should be extended to the sea of Azov. We also urge EU and its member states to close our EU ports for Russian ships coming from the sea of Azov in case Russia does not re-establish the freedom of navigation through the Kerch Strait and in the sea of Azov."
